When was the last time you had to make a life-changing decision? Did it have something to do with your job? Were you deciding on what to do in a particular relationship? Was it about moving to another city or a whole new country?
Regardless of the type of decision or its magnitude, one thing is absolutely certain: in order to make a choice, you will have needed to use either your mind, heart, or a combination of both in the process.
An internal tug-of-war is to be expected when an important decision is looming on the horizon. However, because no two decisions are alike, the struggle can be more intense depending on the situation at hand. Facing the unknown is daunting – which is why some decisions cause you to mull things over and toss around ideas in your head until you feel completely overwhelmed.
Some people argue that more complex decisions require much larger amounts of critical thought. They believe that you need more clarity and focus to come to the correct conclusion. Of course, it is equally important to harness your emotions. While our first instinct is to critically analyze the situation, we eventually look to our emotions for guidance. In the end, your heart is what gives you the confidence you need to see your decision through.
